It’s Ashe on the intro, and I don’t have much to say except…
Why are there Halloween things out already? It’s summer. In fact, it’s peak summer. Why are there pumpkin spice scented candles and bat-themed paraphernalia?
There’s a whole ‘summerween’ thing in the US (thank you Gravity Falls) but we’re not in North America, and they haven’t ventured earlier than early September with Halloween prior… is this a tactic to make Halloweenies like me feel seduced into buying stuff?
I think I’m just tired of the Halloween erasure in Fall! They only push Halloween up to start playing Mariah Carey Christmas hits in August…Christmas propaganda! Why are we moving the most fall aesthetic to the Northern Hemisphere’s summer???? There are pumpkins!!! They’re not in season until August!!! Pine trees are evergreen!!!

Collage Carousels
Remember the collage-style insta posts that people started to call cringe? They’re back to being cool; We’ve spotted them back on the IG feeds.
We never stopped loving scrolling through fun and creatively formatted posts.
Headscarves

Headscarves were already trending last summer, but now they’re even more pervasive. Bandana-topped heads filled the crowds at Glasto and Roskilde, and they’re set to be the it accessory of the summer. Guys, meanwhile we hear that Oasis is bringing bucket hats back. Let’s see what lasts longer, the trend or the band before they fall apart again.
Ice cream wine bar
It probably started with Folderol in Paris (originally meant to be a family-friendly spot fyi), but the wine bar meets ice cream parlour concept is still winning hearts. The Dreamery in East London, serving natty alongside scoops in aesthetically pleasing metallic ice cream cups, is the place to see and be seen. Meanwhile, Amsterdam’s wine bars are still stuck in the hispi cabbage loop.
Walking pads
The 10k step propaganda persists. But we’re also important corporate Zoom call slaves, so the answer is walking pads or desktop treadmills—smaller, sometimes foldable versions of their serious gym cousins. How much will you use it until it becomes an under-bed dust collector?
Princess Treatment vs. Bare Minimum
Here’s a TikTok trend rooted in conversations about different standards in romantic relationships: is an act ‘princess treatment’ or the bare minimum expected out of a partner? People are quizzing their own partners and — if they get it wrong — spraying them with water or dunking their face in ice (or other equivalent punishments).
The trend sparked convo about peoples’ personal preferences, but others bring up the point of misogyny and heteronormative gender roles in relationships. A lot of these videos are more on the jokey side, but the comments run rampant with “but would [the girlfriend] do the same for [the boyfriend] if an act is considered bare minimum?’” [sic]. Is this a repackaging of the manosphere and tradwife “divine feminine” energy talking points? Or is it just a cute fun silly little thing no one should ever think more deeply about?
