is tecktonik back?
plus, "wildflowering" – the newest dating trend
Ashe is back, back again. Did you miss my long-winded writing?
Whether I’m on TikTok, Instagram, or Youtube, I can’t escape these ‘buying food off Facebook Marketplace’ videos.

Why are all these content creators buying food off Facebook Marketplace en masse? Finding places to eat and also pick-up only food spots on Instagram has been very monumental for many small businesses for a while, but it’s very different to this half a year or so of a bunch of videos focused on buying food made at people’s houses off of… Facebook Marketplace.
Is this some algo-slop content hack that I’m not attuned to, or is there a real movement for at-home cooks and ‘small’ business opportunity… and this isn’t some Meta organized psy-op with undisclosed… ads for Facebook?

Obsession
Gen Z is apparently at the cinema like no other at the moment, and the obsession with recent release Obsession (and the ‘discourse’ and thinkpieces it inspired) prove it. This psychological horror may be a great first date movie to weed out whether you and your date ehm have compatible takeaways from the movie.
P.S. maybe Gen Z is also really enjoying horror that isn’t just a franchise because Backrooms did well too.
Tecktonik
The sharp, robotic dance moves in the sound of EDM that first emerged in Paris’ nightclubsin early-2000s are making a comback, largely thanks to Russian creator @cheba_man who’s tecktonik video hit 11.4 million views in four days.
Dot Cakes
Over the past week or so, these cakes covered in nonpareils (or dot sprinkles) have taken the world by storm.
Is it something special? Probably not; a classic ‘funfetti’ or sprinkle cake. It’s just regained popularity. There’s also an ice-cream variant where you’re just throwing the nonpareils on vanilla ice cream. The sprinkle colors and crunch are carrying this. You could even just make some Aussie fairy bread and it call it ‘dot bread’ or something.
Pssst… if you want to try them and you’re in Amsterdam, check out Bini Bakery. Check them out even if you don’t wanna try out a dot cake because they’ve got amazing stuff (Ashe recommends the ube mochi donut).
Wildflowering
Here’s a new dating ‘term’: wildflowering is a dating approach where you let a connection grow naturally instead of rushing to define it or follow a set timeline.
Like how wildflowers just grow.
The idea is to take some pressure off dating and let feelings develop at their own pace. It’s not particularly revolutionary or subverting what is considered the ‘normal’ timeline for dating…it’s just a term for being a bit more chill about it. Probably works best when both people are honest about what they want, so “going with the flow” doesn’t turn into confusion.
Food Jutsu
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen (the anime) may recognize the sound, but this food content trend isn’t being done just by those who do know this anime.
Bartlett’s three glasses of wine
We’re so done with optimisation culture! Steven Bartlett — British entrepreneur and host of the podcast Diary of a CEO — recently complained in his podcast how three glasses of wine “ruined three days of his life” messing up his sleep score, gym routine, and performance. The internet went on collective eyeroll, with celebrities speaking out, such as radio host Greg James, Instagram chef Calum Harris, and Laura Jackson (below).
Ceviche
[Ashe] can’t escape shrimp ceviche on the for you page. [Ashe] thought it was just their unhealthy obsession with Mexican aguachile manifesting onto the algorithms, but it seems like even the horsemen of the trends Logan has been indulging.
Bit of ceviche and a tostada… mouthwatering.

Ube-Demic
We’ve been telling you about the rise of ube in the West (the next matcha, if you will) since last summer. Now it’s a proper ube-demic.
But please, don’t hound Asian bakeries and drinks places for ube-flavored items by ‘recommending’ they implement the flavor into their stuff since it’s now ‘trending’. Chances are, most South-East Asian creators already know about ube or already had ube on the menu seasonally. Starbucks didn’t popularize it. The Filipinos did.
